Teacher Spotlight - Luis Moreno

David Ybarra Fine Arts Academy Inspires Creativity and Confidence Through Pantomime

Edcouch, TX – September 8, 2023 – David Ybarra Fine Arts Academy is proud to showcase the exceptional work of Mr. Luis Moreno, a dedicated 6th-grade Theatre Teacher who is transforming the lives of students through the art of pantomime. Mr. Moreno's innovative approach to teaching has been instrumental in helping students develop their individual pantomime skills and foster a sense of teamwork through group performances.

In a world that often demands expression through words, this lesson allows students to explore the vast spectrum of human emotions and actions without uttering a single word. The journey begins with students learning to express themselves as individuals, capturing the various faces they make in their daily lives through gestures and expressions.

"The beauty of pantomime lies in its ability to connect us with the subtle nuances of human emotion and behavior. By understanding and mimicking the everyday expressions we all make, students gain a deeper appreciation for the art form and its impact on our lives," said Mr. Moreno.

As part of Mr. Moreno's transformative curriculum, students progress from individual expressions to performing pantomime in group settings. This transition not only fosters collaboration but also strengthens their ability to convey intricate stories and emotions through synchronized movements and facial expressions.

Gabby Dimas, a 6th-grade student at David Ybarra Fine Arts Academy, shared her thoughts on Mr. Moreno's class, saying, "I love this class so much because I get to explore and gain experience. I'm actually afraid of the stage, but I'm slowly overcoming this fear because of Mr. Moreno and some of the techniques we're learning." Under Mr. Moreno's guidance, students are not only mastering the art of pantomime but are also discovering newfound confidence.
