Edcouch-Elsa ISD’s Stock Market Club Crowned Regional Champions!

April 25, 2025 — Edcouch-Elsa, Texas — The Edcouch-Elsa High School Stock Market Club has once again proven its investment savvy by earning 1st place in the region in the latest Stock Market Game, which concluded on April 11. The Stock Market Club is part of the Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) Program at Edcouch-Elsa High School. Competing against more than 100 students from across South Texas—including schools like Science Academy, South Texas Health Professions, Laredo United, and Laredo Alexander—Edcouch-Elsa emerged as regional champions after a nail-biting final week.

Led by sponsor Mr. Jack Jasso, the team demonstrated resilience and sharp strategy, pulling from 4th place to 1st during the last week of the game by navigating tariffs and shifting market conditions with remarkable precision. “It all came down to the last 30 minutes,” shared Mr. Jasso.

Senior Daniel Pulido earned statewide recognition, finishing in the top 2% of over 4,000 student portfolios in Texas—an outstanding personal achievement that reflects the caliber of EEHS’s student investors.

“This club provides a powerful platform for students to engage in real-world learning,” shared Dr. Jesse Fidelio Garza, Public Relations Administrator. “From analyzing economic shifts to monitoring stock performance, our students are developing financial literacy that will benefit them for years to come.”

Students in the club manage individual simulated portfolios using real-time stock data. They learn how to respond to market trends, track industry news, and make investment decisions based on strategic thinking and research.

Some of the standout members contributing to this season’s victory include:

  • Daniel Pulido

  • Maria Salas

  • Daniela Anguiano

  • Leslie Gutierrez

  • Leonardo Cabrera

  • Guadalupe Nunez

  • Ashley Flores

  • Helen Cerda

  • Isaac Estrada

  • Fatima Camacho

Throughout the competition, students identified trends in electronic stocks, predicted the potential impact of brand partnerships—like Krispy Kreme’s rumored collaboration with McDonald’s—and studied companies ranging from Dutch Bros to MicroStrategy.

Now in its third year, the Edcouch-Elsa Stock Market Club continues to thrive under Mr. Jasso’s leadership, building future-ready skills and preparing students for success beyond graduation.

“Building a portfolio is about timing and research. Learning this now means I’ll be more prepared for the future,” said Maria Salas, an 11th-grade club member.
