Mr. Rodriguez Takes the Spotlight at TCEA: Pioneering Innovation in Video Game Education

Elsa, Texas - February 15, 2024 - Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District proudly announces that Mr. Jose Rodriguez, Video Game Design & Programming Teacher at Edcouch-Elsa High School (EEHS), was selected to present at the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) conference. TCEA, a prominent member-based organization dedicated to advancing technology in education, recognized Mr. Rodriguez's innovative approach to integrating technology and gaming into the curriculum.


Mr. Rodriguez, along with co-sponsor Mr. Erik Niño, has been instrumental in the success of the EEHS Esports Club, known as the "Jacket Legends." Under their guidance, the club has evolved into a vibrant community for both competitive and novice gamers, fostering an environment that emphasizes not only gaming skills but also essential life skills.

The mission of the "Jacket Legends" Esports Club is to provide a platform for passionate gamers to connect, discuss competitive gaming, form school teams in the High School Esports League, and develop personal skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and leadership. By promoting healthy gaming habits and encouraging collaboration towards shared goals, the club aims to empower students both inside and outside the gaming arena.
