Uniting in Gratitude, Serving the Community One Turkey Plate at a Time

Edcouch-Elsa, Texas - November 17, 2023 - In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the students of Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District (EEISD) have joined hands to spread gratitude by preparing and distributing 2,000 turkey plates to families in need within the community.

Emanuel Briseño, a dedicated 12th-grade student involved in the barber program, expressed his passion for giving back, stating, "In the barber program, we give haircuts to the community - so this is something that I am passionate about - giving back. Getting to make the plates and hand them to families is a great feeling. There's good people out there."

Reflecting on the event's significance, Jocelyn Moreno, also a 12th grader and a member of the Human Services Club, highlighted the collaborative effort, saying, "Coming from the Human Services Club, it feels really good knowing that the community is coming out. Our very own cafeteria workers made this warm meal just for them. Thanksgiving is just about that - it's about being grateful for what we have."

Briana Aguilar, a 12th-grade JROTC member, emphasized the importance of gratitude beyond the holiday season, affirming, "I enjoy helping the community. Not a lot of people have a lot right now. Being thankful is for the whole year - the good and the bad. There's good everywhere. What I love about our community is this right here - we're a small community and we're helping each other out."

Even new students like Kobe Reyes, a 10th grader who recently joined Edcouch-Elsa ISD, have found a welcoming environment and a sense of belonging. "I enjoy giving back to the community. This is my first year with Edcouch-Elsa ISD, and I've fallen in love with everything that this district has to offer. It has been such a welcoming environment. There is a lot that brings us together - from school events like the tailgates. The district is accommodating to student needs."

“Our students have an attitude of gratitude and it is evident by the way they are giving back to their community. This is an absolute blessing to see all of them united to help provide a warm meal to families,” said Dr. Jesse Fidelio Garza, Public Relations and Family Outreach Administrator. The initiative was made possible through a collaboration between Edcouch-Elsa ISD, the City of Elsa, and the City of Edcouch, with an outpouring of support from volunteers, including students and staff that were on location at the Edcouch-Elsa ISD Walking Trails and the Edcouch Fire Department.

This heartwarming effort exemplifies the unity and dedication of the Edcouch-Elsa ISD community towards fostering gratitude and support for one another, showcasing the power of collective goodwill and collaboration.
