A Remarkable Journey from Student to Educator - Celebrating 18 Years of Excellence
Edcouch, TX - September 19, 2023 - Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District proudly honors Mrs. Pat Castillo, a devoted 4th-grade Bilingual Teacher at Ruben C. Rodriguez Elementary, for her outstanding 18 years of service to the district. Mrs. Castillo's remarkable journey began as a graduate of Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1999. “I’m a proud product of Edcouch-Elsa ISD!” Mrs. Castillo shared. She continued her educational path, earning her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV) in 2006.
As a product of the Edcouch-Elsa community herself, Mrs. Castillo exemplifies the district's commitment to Pride in Excellence by giving back to the community that nurtured her growth. Her dedication to her students and her passion for education shine as brightly as ever.
Mrs. Castillo's love for her community is evident in her words: "This is my community, and it's definitely the relationships that I have built that keep me staying here." Her commitment to fostering meaningful connections with her students and their parents has been a cornerstone of her teaching philosophy.
Mrs. Castillo's favorite subject to teach is Reading. She finds joy in helping her young learners relate to characters and events within the texts they explore. Her dedication to nurturing this love of reading is a testament to her genuine passion for education.
Reflecting on her remarkable journey in education, Mrs. Castillo has valuable advice for those entering the teaching profession: "Education is challenging and also self-gratifying. Education is not easy, but it is not impossible. The best piece of advice I would give new teachers entering the profession is to build relationships with students and parents early on."
