Closure of Yellow Jacket Drive

Edcouch, TX - August 24, 2023 - Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District (EEISD) is committed to maintaining the safety and security of its students, staff, and community members. As part of this commitment, EEISD announces the closure of Yellow Jacket Drive during the school day and school hours to ensure the well-being of all individuals on campus.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has authorized our request to allow us to close Yellow Jacket Drive during school days and school hours. This is an effort to protect our students and staff who are crossing the street during the school day and during school hours. This safety strategy is to help protect students and staff from a potential traffic accident.

The decision to close Yellow Jacket Drive stems from EEISD's commitment to the safety and security of its students.

The road closure will be in effect during school hours, starting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Yellow Jacket Drive will be closed between Highway 107 and Mile 17 North. Parents, guardians, and visitors are advised to use alternative routes and follow the designated traffic signs for drop-off and pick-up locations.

Yellow Jacket Drive will allow parents/guardians and visitors to have access to the high school. From Mile 17, people will have access to the Athletic Department, but the rest of Yellow Jacket Drive will be closed. No homeowners will be inconvenienced.

Security personnel will set up barricades in the morning and remove them in the afternoon. The road will be available for emergency responders if they need to pass through.

Signs will be ordered that indicate that Yellow Jacket Drive will be closed during school hours will be placed:

  • 107 East and 107 West before Yellow Jacket Drive, as well as

  • South of Yellow Jacket Drive,

  • Mile 17 North (East and West)

  • Monte Cristo Road

EEISD encourages parents and guardians to plan their routes accordingly to minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth transition during the road closure. The district appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the community as it takes these precautionary measures to enhance the safety and security of its students.
