Community of Edcouch-Elsa ISD:

On June 23rd, 2020 the Edcouch Elsa District Administration conducted what has been viewed as a “mini graduation ceremony”. I wish to advise each student and their parents that this was not approved by the Board nor was I advised prior to it happening.  Our priority is the well-being of all our students, both physically and mentally.  I received calls from disappointed parents that this had occurred.  I agree with each one of them. The Board cancelled all in person graduation ceremonies two weeks ago by Board Action because of the concern for the safety of our seniors and greater community. The action taken today by District Administration was unnecessary and put our students at risk, but also hurt all the other graduates who were not invited to participate. This is not acceptable; the Board will be asking questions of the Interim Superintendent at an upcoming Board meeting as to why and how this happened.


I’d like to apologize to the Graduates who were not included in this activity on behalf of the Board. There are limits to what Board Members can discuss outside of Board Meetings, but I can assure you, that we the Board Members of Edcouch Elsa ISD. are disappointed as well.
