E-E’s Martinez Named Co-MVP as Girls All Valley Cross-Country List is Released
(EDCOUCH) – Ever since she was a freshman, Edcouch-Elsa’s Krysta Martinez has been making a name for herself in the sport of Cross-Country.

Martinez burst onto the scene in her first year of high school competition and put herself on notice as she was amongst the top runners in the Valley.

Fast forward three years later and Martinez will go down as one of the greatest ever to wear a Cross-Country uniform in South Texas.

For all of her accomplishments, Martinez was named the Co-Most Valuable Player as the All Valley Cross-Country list was released on Monday.

Martinez won a ton of meets during her four years at Edcouch-Elsa and was a four-time district champion as well.

Also, Martinez has competed at the state meet three times during her career and placed as high as 12th overall in her sophomore year.

In her final race of her career, Martinez placed 17th at the State Meet with a time of 20:01.70.

Juan Perez, Girls Head Cross-Country Coach for Edcouch-Elsa, talked about how honored he was to be able to coach such an athlete like Martinez.

“She is such a special young lady and it was truly an honor to be her coach,” said Edcouch-Elsa Girls Cross-Country Coach Juan Perez. “Words can’t describe what it was like to have her on this team. Its kids like Krysta that make my job very grateful.”

Martinez will now take her talents to Edinburg as she will run for UT-RGV next fall after she signed a letter of intent to run Cross-Country and Track and Field there.
