Former JFK Elem Alumni Visits Campus

On Tuesday, March 3, 2015 John F. Kennedy Elementary students from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade went on a fieldtrip to see the movie McFarland, USA, as a motivational tool to inspire the children to reach their highest academic goals and dreams.

On Thursday, former J.F.K. student and supporting actor in the film “McFarland”, Valente Rodriguez, came personally to speak to the students and challenge them to do their best on the upcoming exams.  He shared his own story with the students and explained how his story closely mirrored that of the children in McFarland.  The children also had a question and answer session with Mr. Rodriguez about his childhood and his dreams of becoming an actor.  Before leaving he challenged the students to a “Dream Big Dare.”  If 80% of the students passed the STAAR exams then he would make a humorous video and send it to them; however, if 90% of the students passed the exam then he would dress in woman’s attire including heels and lipstick and create a personal video for our students.

Special thanks to Mrs. Maria Elena Rodriguez, school counselor, for making this visit such a success and a great treat for our students.
